It was with great excitement CERI celebrated the graduation of our second cohort of our Module 2 Concept to Creation (C2C) CERIans.
Having polished their pitches and rehearsed their presentations, CERI’s cohort of entrepreneurial researchers presented their ideas to an audience of potential customers, investors and collaborators on Thursday, 5 July 2018.
For one evening a week over the last 14 weeks, our C2C CERIans have been learning the thinking and business skills of an entrepreneur. Taught by real-word industry professionals, participants have been instructed in the ‘art of a start-up’, to enable them to translate their research into a viable commercial venture. This is at the heart of CERI’s mission to create high knowledge enterprises in Western Australia, leading to more jobs and a sustainable, non-resource dependent economy.
CERI’s International expert-in-residence, Jung Park, visited from the USA to kick start the course with sessions on personal brand and successful team formation. These were followed by instruction on developing a lean business canvas, intellectual property, financing, negotiating and presentation skills, all facilitated by local experts.
Led by CEO and esteemed international researcher, Dr Carolyn Williams, CERI’s programs and support are aimed at researchers and designed to cultivate a change of thinking and a perspective outside of academia. Dr Williams enthuses,
“By providing WA researchers with entrepreneurial support, training and a multi-disciplinary environment, we are nurturing the belief that they can really take their research from the labs to the world and make a real difference.
They are the ones most passionate about what they do, they are in the best place to make it a business success.“
The next round of C2C is due to commence on Thursday 23 August and we invite all CERIans who have completed Boot Camp to express their interest in attending by contacting Sarah.
If you are yet to complete Module 1 and would like to enrol in the next C2C, apply for the August Entrepreneurial Mindset Boot Camp here.
We’d all like to thank the industry professionals and esteemed facilitators who donated their time to train and mentor our participants throughout the program.
